Bíonn Seachtain na Gaeilge ar siúl in Éirinn, agus i dtíortha eile gach bliain. I mbliana, tá an fhéile ar siúl idir an 1ú agus an 14ú Márta.
Beidh daltaí scoile ag labhairt Gaeilge chomh minic agus is féidir agus beidh imeachtaí éagsúla ar siúl i rith na seachtaine. Sa scoil seo, beidh Ceolchoirm ar siúl ar an Aoine, le dánta, amhráin agus damhsaí gaeilge. Táimid go léir ag déamamh iarracht gaeilge a labhairt sa seomra ranga. Ar an Luan seo chugainn, beidh "Lá Glas" againn le paráid freisin. Seachtain na Gaeilge takes place in Ireland and in other countries every year. This year it takes place on the 1st-14th of March. Children in schools will be speaking Irish and there will be various events happening during the week. In our school we will have an Irish Concert on Friday with poems, songs and irish dancing and we are doing our best to speak extra Irish in class too. Next Monday we will have a "Green Day” where children will be invited to wear something green and there will be a school parade. Visit www.snag.ie for more information or why not visit some Irish websites in our Learning Zone section. Our school calendar for the next school year is now in the Yearly Calendar section of the school website.
Next year's holidays have also been added to our Google Calendar on the Home Page too. Please take note of all the important dates for your diary -why not even link our Google calendar with your own gmail account by clicking the '+Google Calendar' option in the left corner or the calendar. Well done to Meaghan from 6th class who will be representing St. Brigid's in the Dublin Finals of the National Spelling Bee on the 19th March!
After a gruelling and tense first round in school, Meaghan emerged from the pack of superb spellers as a deserving winner! Congrats Meaghan and best of luck in the next round! Many thanks to Ms. Phelan for organising the event. Happy World Book Day from Room 15 and everyone in St. Brigids. We've been learning a song to mark the occasion and doing lots of reading. Don't forget to use your tokens:-)
This year Room 14 are taking part in the Junior Entrepreneur Project (JEP) . We split into groups and shared our ideas before choosing our favourite one. Next the dragons came in and every group showed their idea. They then decided on their favourite one. We decided to make three products to sell at Room 16's cake sale raising money for the Caroline Foundation. These are delicious cupcakes, Choreos (chocolate covered Oreos) and Cocoa on the Go (ready to go hot chocolate). We are only selling 100 of each product so make sure you come over to our stall and buy some before we are sold out! Everything is only €2 or a super bargain deal of 3 products for €5! We can't wait to sell our products and we can't wait to see you there! Sincere thanks to Joan and Ms. Phelan for allowing us to be part of their cake sale. Make sure you donate as much as you can on the day for the Caroline Foundation! by Sarah B and Amy, Room 14 STEP ONE Here we are brainstorming! We had great fun doing this and hearing all the great ideas. STEP TWO Next we held a Dragon's Den in our classroom. The dragons were John Tuohy, Karen Hargan and our principal Ms.Burke. Each group presented their ideas and were quizzed on everything about it. After every group had presented their product the dragons went down to the back of the room to discuss the ideas that we had pitched. They found it very hard to choose but in the end they put a couple of ideas together that they thought would work as one idea. We decided to make a bakery that would sell chocolate covered Oreos, cupcakes and Cocoa on the Go. Even though not all of our ideas were picked we are all still very excited to work on our bakery! Next, we gave ourselves a name- The Pink Bakery Well done to Sophie from the Design and Production team who came up with our super logo. Watch out for this brand on all of our products on the day! STEP THREE
We broke into our groups to make our product a reality. We all have different responsibilities in our groups. There are five different groups. The storytelling group, the design and production group, the sales group, the finance group and our marketing group. The storytelling group's job is to make a folder saying everything we are doing for our JEP project in a story with pictures. The design and production group's job is to make sure that all of our products look okay and that everything is in place. The sales group's job is to co-ordinate the selling on the day. The finance team's job is to keep track of all the money we spend, pricing everything we buy and figuring out if me make a profit or a loss. The marketing team's job is to publicise our product and see how many people would be interested in buying our product . As you all know we are working hard at staying fit, active and healthy in St Brigid's. To male life easy MABS have just launched 101 SquareMeals - an easy to use cookbook full of homemade, healthy and less expensive meals for the whole family. You can download the book from the link below. Enjoy!
