Raising of our 8th Green Flag-Global Citizenship & Marine Environment

21/6/2019

This morning, we welcomed Ciarán Cuffe in in to St. Brigid's to raise our 8th Green Flag for Global Citizenship & Marine Environment. Ciarán arrived on his bike to our school and was delighted to see all the other bikes at the bike rack. It just shows how many of our pupils walk, cycle and scoot rather than driving. Go St. Brigid's!!

Did You Know??
  • Ciarán was elected as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP)
  • Ciarán is a member of the Green Party.
  • He served as minister of State for Horticulture, Sustainable Travel, Planning and Heritage.
  • He was a TD for the Dún Laoghaire constituency.
  • He was elected to Dublin City Council for Dublin North Inner City area.

St. Brigid's are so proud to be one of the first schools in Ireland to achieve 8 Green Flags. We have learned so much about the world and how to protect it. We are making a promise that we will continue to work on each of the 8 flags, as we don't want to loose them.
St. Brigid's would like to thank the Green School Committee from 3rd-6th class, the teachers-Ms. Keogh, Ms. Ryan, Ms. Mc Shane & Ms. Hassett for working behind the scenes in the Green School Committee and for all the other teachers and pupils who took part. Without them we would not have the knowledge that we now have.

Míle Buíochas

8th Flag-Global Citizenship & Marine Environment

23/5/2019

This week we were delighted to be awarded with the 8th Green Flag for Global Citizenship & Marine Environment. We were invited to the Helix for a special ceremony and for lunch. Unfortunately, we couldn't bring the whole Green School Committee with us, so to celebrate with everyone who worked so hard over the past 2 years we had a Pizza party.

We know that none of this would have been possible without the help of every single person in the school and our community. We are hoping to raise our flag very soon and allow everyone in the school to join us with our celebrations.

Green Schools Committee

We wanted to celebrate with all our new committee members from 3rd class this year, They joined the team at such ease and really put their stamp on making a difference not only in school but at home also.

We want to wish a fond farewell to 6th class committee members that have been on the committee since 3rd class. They are truly dedicated and I know they will continue to spread the love of the Green Schools to their new school, home and their community. They have come up with so many amazing ideas on just how to spread the word about keeping our world clean.

They received certificates of participation, goody bags with lots of Green School goodies and a Pizza party too. We had such a great year this year learning all about the Marine Environment and had an action day to show just how much we learned. We went to the RDS Expo. We recycled batteries, clothes, electrical appliances as well as our normal day to day recycling bins. We took part in a Spring Clean, we had non-plastic day and many charity events too.

We wish you all the best in the new school and remember to stay Green!!

We had a jam-packed Action Week last week in St. Brigid's. We participated in some community clean ups, took part in our motto competition for this flag, enjoyed a marine-themed Dress-up day and had a No Plastic Day. We learned lots from our amazing displays on this theme. Well done to all the kids, parents and teachers who worked so hard to make this week such a success! :-)

Due to the overwhelming amount of recycled Christmas cards we now have enough to last us a lifetime. Thank you to all who has helped us recycle our Christmas cards but we will now no longer be collecting them as we simply do not have enough storage space. Thanking you again for all your support. The Green School Committee.
