What is Green-Schools?
St. Brigid's and the Green-Schools Programme
St. Brigid's GNS have been involved in the Green-Schools programme for over 20 years and the whole school community is dedicated to making our school and grounds a beautiful and environmentally-friendly place to be. Always willing to try out and sustain new initiatives. We have been awarded flags on the themes of;
- Litter and Waste
- Water
- Energy
- Transport
- Biodiversity
- Global Citizenship Litter and Waste
- Global Citizenship & Energy
- Global Citizenship & Marine Environment.
Did you Know?
- We encourage people to recycle by collecting batteries.
- In St. Brigid's, we use sensor lights so a light can never be left on wasting energy!
- We re-use, recycle or dispose of our electrical equipment ethically by arranging WEEE collections!
- We have an organic garden full of delicious fruit and vegetables!
- Our beautiful school grounds are home to frogs, foxes, hedgehogs, squirrels, rabbits, pheasants, a badger and a host of birds!
- We have a camera on our nesting box so we can watch all the progress inside! (In the past two years, we accommodated a family of blue tits then coal tits.)
- We use recycled paper when photocopying!
- We use fair-trade products in our staffroom!
- We recycle ink-cartridges, batteries, paper, cartons and we compost!
- We are proud of all the native trees we have growing on our grounds!
- In St. Brigid's, we have 20 different nationalities in our school population and we enjoy learning all about the different cultures of our pupils and classmates!
- Our Parents Association organise termly clothing and textile collections as fundraisers for our school!
- We walk, cycle, skate or scoot to school whenever possible!
