Student Council 2023/2024
Our Student Council this year has remained the same as last year with the addition of four girls from 3rd class who did wonderful presentations and were voted in by their classmates In November. There are 12 members on the council from the senior end of the school and they will also be making sure to include the voices of those in younger classes. Well done to everyone in 3rd class who ran for the positions. There was an excellent standard and the effort made was very impressive. The student council meets every three to four weeks and the first job of our council this year will be to organise the annual Jingle Bell Run.
We look forward to lots of events and fun throughout the year and we will keep you posted on our school twitter account, our newsletter and here.

Student Council 2022/2023
Our new Student Council this year comprises of girls from 3rd - 6th class. There are 12 representatives in total along with three teachers. To date this year we have worked on a whole school World Cup competition where each class was given a country and they studied this country. We heard facts on the intercom every day about the chosen countries and we all learned lots. Ms Ryan's class were lucky enough to get Argentina and they had a lovely treat afternoon as their prize.
Now in Term 2 we have decided to look at reading in the school and ways we might improve this and engage more with it. We are focusing on preparing for World Book Week and activities around this. We are also going to have whole school DEAR time.
Our twitter account and our school newsletter will keep you updated on our activities.

St. Brigid's set up their first student council in September 2018/2019.
We think it's important to incorporate pupil voice into the running of our school and we hope our student council will be representatives for the ideas and opinions of all students in the school.
The student council were voted in by their classmates and are made up of students from 3rd - 6th class. They delivered presentations and speeches on their ideas and plans before the elections. Well done to everyone who took part and everyone who voted so responsibly. Meet the girls on the council in the post below.

What have we been up to?
Our student council have had four or five meetings so far, received our student council badges, established the values we will work by and how we will feedback our progress and plans to the school community.
We also created a student council board in the hall where we can display what is happening. On this board we have also a suggestion folder where we welcome ideas from all pupils and will discuss them at our meetings.

Some things that we've been working on already:
- Assembly - We talked to Ms Burke and decided that people can bring a cushion to assembly for comfort if they would like to.
- Communication -We visited the younger classes to explain to them what we are and what we do. We will continue to do this so their voice is included. We also feedback to our own classes after each meeting and as necessary.
- Lines in yard - We are monitoring lines in the yard as a means to improving the lining up and there will be class prize for best lines in both yards. Stars will be added to charts in the hall by our student council members to monitor this progress. Everyone has made a great effort with this so well done.
- Jingle Bell Run - The student council members in conjunction with the 5th/6th class members of the Active Schools committee organised and helped out with our Jingle Bell Run before Christmas. This was a great success and they also asked each class for their favourite Christmas song to play during the run.
- Meeting with St. Mary's - We have made contact with the student council in St. Mary's and In the New Year we hope to meet up with them to hear what they do and how they are set up. We are really looking forward to this.
Initial Student Council Presentation and Guidelines
Check out the video below to see our vision for the student council and the guidelines for presentations. All classes attended a meeting in September before going to work on their own ideas, speeches and presentations.
Some pictures from our many wonderful presentations
We would like to say a big well done to everyone who took part in our student council elections. The effort and work that went into them was very evident and the teachers were so impressed with the standard in all classes. Well done everyone.
