Board of Management Report - June 2024

-  As part of a Government funded scheme we have 16 solar panels installed on part of the flat roof. The panels provide 6 kW of power hourly.  The system is connected to the grid and the school was provided with a monitor to see how the input and output of electricity is used.
- 
2 phases of drainage works have now been approved under the Emergency Works scheme. Old copper pipes will be replaced by new aluminium pipes at the front of the building and in in the junior yard. It is hoped that these works will be completed over Summer. A Consultant has been appointed and the Consultant is now sourcing a Contractor to complete the works.
- The exterior of the building will be painted over the Summer holidays.
- Four temporary teachers and one job-share SNA will be appointed for the next academic year.

-The Board thanked the Parents Association for funds raised to support the Heritage in School bread milling workshop and The Big Dig, together with the purchase of two Interactive Panels.

 - Returning Board members and new Board member, Micheal Wall were welcome to the newly constituted Board.
- The Anti-Bullying Policy was reviewed.  An updated copy can be found on the school website www.stbrigid.ie 
-The Board congratulated staff on their successful recent Curriculum Evaluation of English. The full report will be issued to the school by the Department of Education, in due course.

​A review of the Child Safeguarding Statement was completed by the Board. This updated document will be issued to all members of the school community and will be found on the school website www.stbrigid.ie.
A new emergency works application for the second phase of upgraded pipes in the junior yard will be submitted to the Department of Education and Skills in due course
The patron is in the process of constituting a new Board of Management to take office from December 1st 2023. Composition of the new Board is as follows:

Board of Management Report to the School Community  September 2023

  • A circular has been issued in relation to the constitution of the new Boards of Management, which will take effect from December 1st, 2023.  Both Margaret Lennon and Deirdre Dunne have agreed to stay on as Chairperson and Treasurer respectively.  The Governance Manual will issue shortly, with details on the process of nomination and election of members, which is due to take place during the month of November.
  • Applications for enrolment will open on 03/10/23 for the 2023/2024 academic year.
  • As part of the School Self Evaluation process,Wellbeing has been chosen as area of focus under 3 headings - :staff/pupils/parents

Board of Management Report to the School Community - June 2023
  • The Board expressed their sincere thanks to Mary Heaslip who recently announced that she will retire in August 2023. Ms Heaslip has worked as a Reading Recovery Teacher Leader in Marino Institute for the last number of years.
  • The Board also wished Orla Flately and Nicole Brady well in their new endeavours next year.
  • Staff, led by Ms Coggins have formed a Marketing Committee with a view to promoting all that St. Brigid's School has to offer. They have lots of exciting plans afoot to develop and market the school.  A promotional video is currently in the making.
  • As part of the Safe Routes to School application, St. Brigid’s was chosen as one of 200 schools nationwide, to avail of a new suite of cycle and scooter parking.  We have been allocated 5 scooter racks, 1 x 30 space cycle toast rack and 1 x 10 space cycle toast rack. Work will continue on this project during the Summer holidays.
  • The Board would like to thank the teachers, SNA’s and ancillary staff of St. Brigid’s GNS for their hard work and commitment to the school during the academic year.

  • Over the Halloween break rooms 10, 12 and 13 were painted. Our aim is to get the few remaining classrooms painted over the course of the remainder of the academic year.
  • HEPA filters and CO2 monitor usage as well as good ventilation practices and hand hygiene practices will continue. Since returning after the Halloween break, we are no longer informing parents/guardians if there is a positive covid case in the class.
  • From the 2023-2024 academic year onwards, we will be aligning our school calendar with Sacred Heart B.N.S. 
  • Ms. Burke will be returning to her role as school Principal on the 7th of December. Ms. Lafferty will be returning to her role as Deputy Principal. 
  • A total of €23,180 was raised from the school marathon relay. The money raised will go towards resurfacing the junior playground.

  • The Board completed the annual review of the Child Safeguarding Statement and Risk Assessment in accordance with the Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post Primary Schools 2017. A copy of the reviewed document is available on www.stbrigid.ie and is available on request from the school office.
  • We are delighted to share that over the course of the summer holidays we upgraded our external doors and internal doors. Our prefab, internally and externally, as well as classrooms 7 and 8 got painted. Terry has also been busy replanting the area opposite the main entrance to the school building. Our sensory room upgrade has now been completed.

  • HEPA filters and CO2 monitor usage as well as good ventilation practices and hand hygiene practices will continue. When the school is notified of a positive covid case, we will continue to inform parents/guardians of the class in which the positive covid case has been reported. Pupils will not be identified. We will review the remaining measures that are in place, on an ongoing basis and update parents/guardians accordingly.

  • Our Danceathon took place on Wednesday the 6th of April to raise funding to support the upgrading of our Sensory Room. We raised circa €12, 921.18. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your donations and continued support.
  • The Board ratified the reviewed Acceptable Use Policy. A copy of the reviewed policy is available on www.stbrigid.ie and is available on request from the school office.
  • As part of a Fire Upgrade to the school, an initial site survey was conducted. Once a contractor has been finalised, a schedule of works will be drawn up.  It is hoped this work will be completed over the Summer holidays.
  • Over the past few months, the school has been gradually lifting the restrictions that were in place due to covid. Directly after the June Bank Holiday weekend, the school will be reverting back to our pre-covid start time of 08:50. The children will have a 10 minute window to arrive between 08:40-08:50 with lessons starting at 08:50. Hepa filters and Co2 monitors will continue to be used in classrooms. Good hand hygiene etiquette will continue to be followed.

Easing of Covid Restrictions 2022
The school has gradually been reverting to some of our pre-covid practices and procedures. Please see an overview of the changes below.

Dismissal Change
 On Monday, the 25th of April (directly after the Easter break), we will be returning to our pre-covid dismissal procedure. The changes are detailed below.


Dismissal Procedures

-Junior and Senior Infants (13:30 dismissal) No change to dismissal procedure
-1st Class (14:25 dismissal) Room 9 will be dismissed from the vehicle entrance -Room 1 will be dismissed from the pedestrian gate
-2nd Class (14:27 dismissal) Room 7 and 8 will be dismissed from the pedestrian gate
-3rd-6th Class (14:30 dismissal)Two classes at a time will make their way up either side of the railing and will be dismissed from the pedestrian gate

Additional Changes
  • On Monday, March 21st, the children began going outdoors for the 10:35 break. During this break, they were joined in their zones, with their partner classes. On Monday, April 4th, the staggered breaks at lunch time were removed and all of the children, were joined in their zones, with their partner classes for the 12:30 break
  • Our aim is to have our junior and senior Values assembly in the hall after the Easter break
  • ​Our school shop has reopened
  • School tours will go ahead in term three
  • We are continuing to follow the DES guidance on good infection prevention and control measures such as hygiene and ventilation. Good hand etiquette procedures and Co2/HEPA filters will continue to be used

  • The Board completed the annual review of the Child Safeguarding Statement and Risk Assessment in line accordance with the Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post Primary Schools 2017. A copy of the reviewed document is available on www.stbrigid.ie and is available on request from the school office
  • Following assessment of the school’s Emergency Works Application, the DES has approved an all in grant for Life Safety Systems work. This will involve a fire upgrade including new fire-doors in all classrooms and new corridor doors.
  • The school has decided to keep all existing Covid Response measures in place for the moment. This includes bubbles, pods, hand washing/santising etiquette, arrivals & dismissal procedures and limiting visitors into the building. Parents are thanked for their continued support in this regard.
