About Our Mosaic
We started work on our school mosaic in March 2014 and unveiled it on the 28th of May 2014. The mosaic is a memorial to our much loved friend, staff member and teacher Ms. Dwyer (Caroline Dwyer Hickey). It has also been a wonderfully inclusive art project involving every child in the school, all the past and present staff and parent helpers. We have all enjoyed the process immensely and the finished product brightens up our playground so much.
Our Artist
Our artist Séan Corcoran from ‘The Art Hand’ in Waterford has done a superb job in involving all the children in every stage of the process. His design was inspired by the logo for The Caroline Foundation and also from speaking to the children during the planning phase. The artist was very impressed with the huge array of things the children brought in to add to the mosaic.
Thank you to everyone involved!
We would like to sincerely thank Séan for facilitating this project and all our parent helpers for giving their time so willingly. The Parents Association have very kindly contributed financially and are very supportive as always. We really have been overwhelmed by parental support from people giving their time, donation of tiles and much more. Our Irish dancing teachers Colm and Lorraine Keogh also donated the proceeds of a dance competition to us and we will put it towards this project so thank you to them. We must also acknowledge and thank Paul Gibbons for the plastering of the wall in the yard and Orla Dunne for help with our mount and the engineering side of things. We really appreciate everyone's generosity and support.
We are also really grateful to Caroline's family for contributing very generously to the cost of the project and helping us to make it happen. They are excited about and appreciative of the whole process and they love the end result.
We all are proud of our memorial to Ms. Dwyer and the sun shines brightly on it in our school yard where we can stop anytime we want and have a treasure hunt for our individual momentos and memories buried within it.
