St. Brigid's took part in a very successful Low Energy Day in school on Monday, 29th February. As well as learning all about conserving energy over the past while in class, we also took part in lots of other fun events on the day. Each class from Junior Infants right up to 6th class displayed an energy-themed experiment in the school hall and we all got to see and interact with each others' work. We learned loads! In the afternoon, there were two table quizzes in the hall. We learned loads again! ;-) Throughout the day, our Green Schools committee acted as monitors checking energy conservation in our classrooms. We really all made a really big effort to have switches and appliances turned off when we weren't using them. We also kept our heating turned down and our sensor lights dimmed. The teachers also made a huge effort not to use the microwave, the photocopier or printers. Dave was busy taking energy readings for us at the start and end of the day and hopefully we will be able to see that we saved lots of energy! Many thanks to all who organised the day so well, particularly Ms. Keogh, Ms. Freeman, Ms. Hassett and Mr. Manning. It has taught us many ways we can help save energy in our school and homes in the future. Have a look at the slideshow below to see all the action!
