GOAL Jersey Day Friday 18th Sept 2015 -THANK YOU!

22/9/2015

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our Jersey Day.  We raised an AMAZING €813 for Goal charity.

We're hosting a 'Jersey Day' this Friday for a good cause.  To coincide with the All Ireland game this Sunday, every child who wishes to participate can wear in their jersey or even just the colours of their favourite team.  Any child who wears their own colours/ jersey can then give a donation of between €1-€2 to the charity Goal.  Goal is an organisation that is working hard to respond to the crisis in Syria and we're hoping we can help them by raising money for the many families who have been left homeless because of the war. Read more about Goal here.

Congratulations and well done to Sarah Cullen, a past pupil who just left St. Brigids for secondary school last June. Sarah got a special mention on the Dublin camogie website this weekend for a fantastic performance in an U12 game against Lucan. Sarah and her sister Hannah both play for Na Fianna. They have given great service to St. Brigid's on our football, camogie and basketball teams for the last few years and helped us reach the Croke Park finals on more than one occasion. Click on the logo to                                                    the left to read more about Sarah's sideline special.

Jersey Day in Room 15

We had a Jersey Day on Friday in the run up to the All Ireland to raise money for Goal and the people in Syria. In 4th class  we designed jerseys, researched the Sam Maguire,  based our Irish and History lessons on the GAA and played a game of Gaelic football.

There was a wonderful variety of jerseys on display with the majority of course dressed in their blue to support the Dubs.

Ms O' Donoghue was flying the flag for Kerry in Junior Infants and we'll all be very nice to her this week as she gets over her disappointment.
Congratulations to the Dublin team from all in St. Brigids. :-)
Check out some pictures from the day in this video:

Visit to the Francis Bacon Studio at the Hugh Lane Gallery by 5th class R.16

We had a great visit to the Hugh Lane Gallery to learn about Francis Bacon, his paintings and the wonderful studio he worked in in London until he died in 1992. This studio was then brought to the Hugh Lane Gallery over a course of 6 years.
After viewing the studio, it was time for us to recreate our own mini studios. It was great fun doing this, and we came back to school with many colourful pieces of work.

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA), has produced some lovely booklets about the 'What, How and Why of children's learning in primary school'.  These booklets are available to download for each class level here:
NCCA Primary Booklets

Each booklet presents information about what children learn, how they learn and the approaches and methodologies teachers use in the classroom.  It also talks about assessment, homework and the importance of learning at home.

We hope you will find these booklets helpful to understanding better what your child learns in primary school and give you practical suggestions of how to get involved in your child's learning.
