We were delighted to have been selected as a Scoilnet 'Star Site'. This much-coveted award recognises schools all over Ireland that embrace the web as a communication tool.

Well done to the teachers and students for keeping the News Blog up to date with  their fantastic work and news throughout the year!

Our school was featured in the April edition of the Intouch magazine which is an INTO publication. ( see image at the side)  --------------------------->

The girls on the St. Brigid's basketball team participated in the senior B mini basketball tournament on May 26th in the National Basketball Arena.

Their first game was against Mother of Divine Grace, which they won 28-8. Their next game against Marist, Crumlin saw another great win, 30-8. This meant that the girls were now through to the final as pool winners.

The opposition in the final against Lusk saw us lose out by 12 points and come runners up.

The team players showed super spirit and competitiveness throughout the day, and we are very proud of them. A big well done too to the girls who marked the score sheet and worked the game clock.

Well done to all involved on the day. Keep up the great work in your new schools ladies.

R.16 5th class enjoy Cinemagic and The Childrens Book Awards Ceremony

The 5th class girls from R.16 were delighted to be a part of the annual Cinemagic Film Festival when recently in Dublin.

On May 16th, the girls travelled to Cineworld Cinema  to watch a screening of the new film, The Jungle Book.
All agreed that this film was interesting, exciting, and at times made us jump out of our seats. Even Ms. Phelan was seen to jump at one stage!!!

It was great to be part of the Cinemagic Festival and get to see this new film.

On Monday May 23rd, R.16 were once again travelling to the City Centre, to the beautiful Smock Alley Theatre, to represent St. Brigid's school at the annual Children's Book Awards Ceremony as part of their Shadowing process to determine which shortlisted book would they agree was the best and most interesting. The girls from the other 5th class were also in attendance at this event. Rick O'Shea was the presenter of the awards and was great to listen to. Ellen from Ms. Phelan's class, and Kate from Ms. Ryan's class, were selected to present the children's choice award to the overall winner, Sarah Crossan for her book One.
It has been a great experience and opportunity for the two 5th classes to be involved in this process, and a huge honour that St. Brigid's were invited to this ceremony. Well done to all the girls for their excellent behaviour and interest in this event. Their work over the past few weeks was superb.

See the video below for some pictures of what we've been doing for the last few weeks.
  • We  really enjoyed Active Schools week. We also took some pictures for the Super Troopers people.
  • We did some spring cleaning in our classroom and the yard during Spring Clean Week.
  • We designed and made boats with our student teacher.
  • We started reading  buddies with Ms Higgins's Junior Infant class last week and we loved it
  • We went to town to do a trip around the 1916 sites in a military truck. It was great fun and the tour guides were very impressed by how much we all knew. We also had a nice treat in Mc Donalds.
  • We can't wait for our school tour on May 31st to the Aviva Stadium and the Viking Splash.

Room 7 have been looking after a few caterpillars over the last few weeks. We have been watching them grow bigger and bigger. We watched them nestle into their cocoons and they have just hatched out of them. We will release them into the garden next week.

Room 14 are busy as ever!
We had a great Active Schools' Week. (Thanks to all who organised it and for making it such a success!)
We are also busy finishing off our Shadowing Programme activities and voting for our CBI Book of the Year before we attend the awards ceremony in Smock Alley Theatre on the 23rd May.
Last week we had such a fun trip to Fighting Words on Russell Street where we attended a writing workshop with the wonderful Tess and all her helpers. Our story was called The Sister Hunt and you can see our published copy outside our classroom!
Have a look below to see what we've been up to! :-)

Our theme for Aistear last month was The Clothes Shop. We enjoyed pretending to be shop assistants and customers. Our construction team were busy building shopping centres and in junk art we designed some beautiful outfits and hats.
