27/4/2016

A MASSIVE WELL DONE to all of the girls from 5th & 6th class in their musical production Alice in Wonderland last week.

They did their parents, their teachers and indeed their whole school very proud.  Everyone commented on how professional they were and how they shone like stars every night! Here's a photo slideshow of the night. Thanks to Sheila & Ms. O' Toole for taking these fantastic photos!

Shadowing activities in Room 16

27/4/2016

The girls in both 5th classes are reading lots of books in conjunction with Children's Books Ireland in a Shadowing process. The girls in R.16 created miniature houses representing the houses of Lilliput in Gulliver's Travels. Everything is so tiny it gives a great impression of how big we are in comparison!

Digital Art Week 2016 April 24th -29th

25/4/2016

We've been busy combining two of our favourite things this week in our computer classes - Art and ICT!

Digital Artweek is an initiative started by teachers (Simon Lewis, Damien Quinn and Fred Boss) in 2011 and it encourages the use of technology to create and share art. There are so many apps and websites with digital  tools that allow us to create art.  Visit the Art section of the Learning Zone or click the links at the side to create some art. If you are on twitter you can tweet #artweek16 to share your creation.

We've signed up to www.digitalartweek.com and will be uploading our artwork to share in an online gallery with other schools around Ireland.

Here's a taster of our digital art so far: Go to the Computer Blog to find more by the end of the week.

Update from Room 15 (4th Class)

24/4/2016

We've been very busy in Room 15 since our last update. Read below and have a look at our slideshow to see what's been going on.
  • We're very  proud of Holly who read St. Brigid's Proclamation for the future on Proclamation Day. We all had a lovely day and we would like to say a big thank you to all the parents who came to our classroom later that day to hear about all the work we had been doing on 1916.
  • We also had a great time at the St. Patrick's day Parade in the yard. Well done Dave on being a great grand marshal.
  • We had a lovely time participating in Well-being Week recently. It was a wonderful week full of meditation, yoga, walks, gratitude trees, mindful eating and random acts of kindness. Our homework for the week focused on the importance of a healthy mind, healthy body and healthy diet and I was thrilled with the way the girls embraced it all. Thank you to Sr. Teresa and the convent for allowing us to visit their retreat centre for meditation and also for bringing us into the convent chapel to say a prayer for everything we are thankful for in our lives.
  • Last week the school musical took place involving the 5th and 6th class girls. We all got a sneak preview before opening night and we absolutely loved it. Well done to everyone involved. Thanks to the girls in our class who helped out at the tuck shop and on the front door each night.
  • Our student teacher Ms Mc Donnell has started her placement in our class and we are really enjoying her interesting and engaging lessons. We've done lots of work. We had fun measuring things inside and outside in maths, we are designing and making boats in art, we composed a class anthem in music, we've done the penal laws in history, Italy in geography and so much more. Thanks for all your hard work Ms. Mc Donnell.
  • We are working really hard on projects on either Italy or Japan at the moment.
  • This week is Active Schools Week so we're looking forward to that and plan to keep really active all week with lots of fun activities planned..

Swim for a Mile Challenge

20/4/2016

Ms. Brady and Ms. Coggins completed the 'Swim for a Mile' challenge in the National Aquatic Centre on the 8th of April. The girls in St.Brigid's managed to raise an amazing €760 in sponsorship. They showed great enthusiasm and support for the event and eagerly tracked the fundraising progress on the chart in the hall. This money all goes towards the School Fund in St Brigid's to cover the day to day costs of running the school. Well done to all involved.

Alice in Wonderland Show is nearly here!

19/4/2016

The 5th & 6th class girls were rehearsing with the sound and lighting today and all is going really well.  The hard work that we've put into rehearsing since last November has really paid off........ and the big performances are nearly here.

If you haven't got your ticket for the show there are still a few left so get them quick! There will also be some available at the door on the night too.

Remember the show starts at 7pm and is in Our Lady of Dolour's Hall under the church on Wednesday 20th, Thursday the 21st and Friday 22nd of April.

We look forward to seeing you there on the night and hope you will enjoy the journey down the rabbit hole with Alice and cast.

Well-Being Week in Room 14

19/4/2016

Room 14 enjoyed a wonderful Well-Being Week and thoroughly reaped the benefits of a calm and positive classroom.
We enjoyed a lovely walk in the Botanic Gardens and did some meditation in the sensory garden. We painted and discussed our feelings during Art class. We also had a great time making our funny fruit people on 'Fruit Friday' before ending the week on a lovely, calm note with our yoga session.
Some girls discovered that they liked meditation and mindful colouring so much that we have decided to continue this good work for the rest of the year with 'Meditation Monday.'  We have also kept our quiet space and our Compliments Wall in operation and we write positive messages into our happy pink box.
Have a look below at some of our happy memories! :-)

Smoothie Making in 4th, Room 12

18/4/2016

We made healthy fruit smoothies in Room 12 as part of our activities for 'Well-being Week'. Between our meditating, yoga and fruit eating, we made a healthy start to what will hopefully be a bright and sunny spring/summer term!

Wellness week in St. Brigid's

We have had a great week this week in school learning about how to have a healthy body, healthy mind and healthy diet. Positive quotes at the start of every day were a wonderful way to begin each day. Each class got the opportunity to have a relaxing yoga class during the week. Friday was fruit/veg day to encourage an extra piece of fruit and veg in our lunch boxes.
Some girls in 5th class R.16 created the wonderful characters above using various pieces of fruit and vegetables.
Finally, a quote to emphasise the importance of participation in our various activities which help us to be healthy in mind and body!
