Having won the Dublin basketball league final in February, the girls of St. Brigid's returned to the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght today to participate in the Dublin Senior 'B' tournament. This was a round robin competition, comprising five teams, including St. Brigid's. We began on a positive note, winning our first game 16:2. Our second game was a much closer affair, but we edged out winners on a score line of 10:6. We won our third and fourth games comprehensively to take the title, and the trophy, home to Glasnevin. Every girl played her heart out, and contributed to this super win. Four girls did table officiating, and what a great job they did as well. I was so proud of the team. Since October, they have trained hard and put into practice what they learned during the year. On behalf of our basketball team, Sarah Cullen(R.14) and her sister, Hannah(R.16) were co-captains in accepting the trophy. Well done, everyone. You were, and are, amazing!! Ms. Phelan

Today in room 9 we were learning all about the sun and telling the time. We went outside at 9:30am and drew our shadows. They were very long. We went back outside at 1pm and our shadows had now changed direction and they were very short. The sun had moved! We then had to chase our friends shadows. It was great fun. This week in Ms. McGrath's class we were working on grammar, story writing and recount writing. Sophia in Rm. 12 wrote a fantastic story, taking inspiration from a picture of an old junk shop. Sophia worked very hard to create beautiful descriptive sentences and when you read her story you'll feel like you're in "Tom's Amazing Junk Shop" yourself. Below you will find Sophia's story and the picture that inspired it. Comment below telling us what sort of shop you would run if you were Tom. The Old Junk ShopOne day I went into an old junk shop. It was very dusty and untidy. The shop was full with large and small items; but I didn't know what to choose. There were things from the olden days like a pram, a doll and a top hat. There was a skeleton for science and instruments for music. Rackets and baseball bats and golf clubs for sports were in every box. After looking around I decided to clean up the shop. Then I brushed the floor, cleaned the windows and I used the mop to clean up the cobwebs.I found a can of old turquoise blue paint and a painting brush. I climbed up a rusty old ladder and started to paint the walls, the doors and the windows. After that I went outside and thought to myself maybe I need a sign and some lights. On my sign it said Tom's Amazing New Junk Shop, with lights around it. I decided to become the shopkeeper and make sure I had my shop ready for customers.
On Friday 5th June Room 10 performed a rocking 'Times Tables' concert for their parents and the children in the school. They were accompanied by musicians Peter (who wrote the songs), Claire, Patrick and Stephen. Well done girls - this certainly makes learning the times tables a lot of fun!
On my school tour we went bowling. I scored 45 points. It was my first time bowling. There was a big play area. In the big play area, there were slides, big soft balls,a ball pool and a spinning thing. We had lots of fun. My favourite thing was the play area.
By Tiria in room 8 Second class went to Base Entertainment Centre on the 04/06/2015 for their school tour. We set off at 9:15am and arrived at our destination at 9:50 just in time for opening time at 10am. We spent an hour bowling. Many people got a spare and a few strikers too. Our teacher some how sneaked a bit of maths into our day, as we had to count our scores up each time we bowled to see who was in the lead.. After bowling, we ate lunch and all of our goodies. They were so yummy! Next was the HUGE soft play area. We were only supposed to get an hour in this area but the staff were so kind that they let us stay as long as we liked and even gave us drinks to re-hydrate. Unfortunately, our fun day had to come to an end. The bus man picked us up at 1:30pm for our return home. Some of us even fell asleep on the bus. We would like to thank Joan our SNA and our mammy's; Mandy and Joan for accompanying us on our school tour. We had the best day EVER! On Friday, 29th May, Ms Phelan's 6th Class went to Athlone for their annual school tour. It took a long time to get there, but it was worth it!
To start the day, we went to BaySports, where we did some team activities and kayaking in the morning. Next , we went on a huge inflatable water-slide/climbing frame and inflatable hamster wheel. It was brilliant! To end the day, we went pier-jumping! It was FREEZING, but also really great fun! To end our school tour, we went to Supermac's for a meal. We all had great fun. Overall, our school tour was amazing, and we were all overwhelmed with the amount of activities involved in the whole day! As our last ever school tour in Primary School, it was definitely worth going to :) . By Louise, Rm 16 :) For the month of May the girls in Room 3 were working on the theme 'Food'. They got to play in the restaurant, made food from play dough and sand, made delicious looking paper plate pizzas and built their own restaurants.. They also worked on deciding if food was healthy or unhealthy and there was a station where they got to play alphabet bingo. It's been a busy month! |
